ECS-53506 Empowerment for Sustainability
'The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift'. (Albert Einstein).
The rationale for offering this course on intuitive intelligence is to provide counterpart to the extensive use of rational, analytical and critical thinking. The emphasis on developing this capacity is understandable and necessary in an academic program. However in some students it leads to loss of connection with their personal inspiration and feelings and therefore feel less motivation for their study program. Attending intuitive intelligence can assist students to get back in touch with their inspiration. Moreover, doing this course helps students to more readily access capacities like intuition, creative thinking and regulation of their physiological state of being from a reactive state to a flow state. In these times with information overload and work pressure, it can help them to make better choices. This is of use for any academic professional. In the classes a firm basis will be given about the concepts of intuition and intelligence. Next to that many practical experiential tools (mindfulness, dialogue, centering, creative thinking) are provided and tested to enhance the use of one's intuitive intelligence. Students are challenged to integrate the use of their head, heart and hands in a personal project integrating the knowledge, skills, and attitude learned in the course.
After successful completion of this course students are expected to be able to:
- describe own type of intelligence with the use of provided background material;
- describe own view on what intuitive intelligence is and how to use it;
- apply the use of mindfulness and centering techniques and reflect on the experienced effects;
- describe the experience and usefulness of holding a dialogue (deep listening);
- create a creative product and presentation about a personal project that shows intuitive intelligence in action.
This course will be hands-on and in-depth. Be prepared to use your head, heart and hands. Make assignments, try out new things like visualisations, dialoguing, mindfulness exercises and centering techniques, read literature, share your experiences and write down personal reflections creatively.
- reflection paper (70%);
- presentation about a personal project (30%);
Both components require a minimum mark of 5.5 to pass and active participation in at least 5 out of 6 sessions is mandatory.
The study guide and articles will be offered online on Blackboard.
