Basics of Environmental Science and Environmental Policy

Contents:

This course addresses the main current developments in environmental management in industry. It aims to integrate aspects of organization, strategic management, accounting and policy, together with natural science and technology aspects.

Aims:

After completion of the course, students will have insight in central concepts of environmental management (e.g. pollution prevention, environmental management systems, ISO 14001, life cycle management, industrial ecology) as well as selected theories for environmental management (in particular the 3 stage model of environmental strategy, the organization theory of Mintzberg, models of accounting and reporting, ecological modernization theory, and industrial networks). They will be able to apply these concepts and models to realistic cases.

Lectures, assigments, excursion.

Examination:

A combination of assignments and written exam.

Literature:

A course outline is available. Literature consists of a coursebook and hand-outs, to be provided at the start of the course.
