Based on maps, photos, and pictures as such a survey is given of man made landscapes in Europe. We will pay attention to occupational patterns, rivers, roads, et cetera. We will also focus on the composition of the soil and its use. Finally we will concentrate on the question how to handle this diverse cultural heritage.
Aims:
This course is meant for Dutch students to get an understanding for the diversity of the European landscapes. What are the specific characteristics of these landscapes? How did they develop? How can we assess the Dutch landscapes in the context of Europe? With the help of the European landscape convention and the World Heritage List of the Unesco students will be trained in assessing landscapes as cultural heritage.
