Contents:
This course pays attention to
- the development of Dutch landscapes;
- theory of historical geography;
- the sources for historical geographical landscape research;
- methods of applied historical landscape research.
Aims:
- knowledge and understanding of the history of the Dutch landscape;
- knowledge of historical geography as a discipline;
- knowledge of sources for historical landscape research;
- knowledge and understanding of methods for historical landscape research;
- knowledge of national, provincial and municipal policies with regard to historical landscape maintenance;
- knowledge of institutions with regard to the study and maintenance of historical landscapes.
Activities:
Lectures and individual assignments. Each individual student has to study a part of a region, to establish its history of the landscape and the built environment, and to assess the opportunities for future use.
Examination:
There will be a written exam based on the lectures and the obligatory literature. The final mark is the result of this written exam and the mark for the assignment.
