Contents:
Descriptive statistics, data collection, probability calculus, common probability distributions.
Statistical inference.
1. Theory : estimation, confidence intervals, testing.
2. Application to standard situations (1 sample: interest in mean or fraction; 2 independent samples: difference in means; paired observations: difference in means, regression and correlation), also using computer software, in particular SPSS.
Aims:
1. Understand the general ideas in Statistics, 2. Apply principles and methods to standard situations also using software analysis.
Activities:
Study the book, make exercises; follow lectures; in practical class: use software to make exercises.
Examination:
Written exam, 3 hrs. A test or assignment for the practical class
