Contents:
The course deals with the economic aspects of land and different types of land use, and price formation of land. The addressed issues are:
- developments in land use in The Netherlands and the EU;
- theoretical explanation for developments in rural land use;
- reasons and evaluation of government intervention;
- land as production factor in agriculture, horticulture, forestry and nature;
- price formation and valuation of land;
- valuation methods for nature and landscape;
- land and tenure policy;
- multifunctional land use, side activities farmers, and rural policy.
Aims:
The most important goals of the course are to get insight in:
- factors which determine land use and value of land;
- government intervention in land markets and land use and the reasons for this;
- working of the land market, including price formation;
- valuation methods for wildlife and landscape;
- problems and possibilities of multiple land use and side activities of farmers.
Activities:
The most important activities are: - reading and studying of the indicated chapter of the book (see Course guide); - reading and studying the syllabus; - making and handing in exercises.
